Have received the letter of De Puebla, dated the 21st of January. 
Have answered all his letters hitherto received... 

                                                          Columbus.

"You write that a person like Columbus has come to England for the purpose of persuading the King to enter into an undertaking similar to that of the Indies, without prejudice to Spain and Portugal. 

He is quite at liberty. 


But we believe that this undertaking was thrown in the way of the King of England by the King of France, with the premeditated intention of distracting him from his other business. Take care that the King of England be not deceived in this or in any other matter. 

The French will try as hard as they can to lead him into such undertakings, but they are very uncertain enterprises, and must not be gone into at present. Besides they cannot be executed without prejudice to us and to the King of Portugal...."

Recibida la carta de Puebla, con fecha del 21 de enero. 

Respondidas todas sus cartas recibidas hasta ahora...

                                                          Colon.

"Usted escribe que una persona como Colón ha venido a Inglaterra con el propósito de persuadir al Rey para que emprenda una empresa similar a la de las Indias, sin perjuicio de España y Portugal. 

Está en plena libertad. 

Pero creemos que esta empresa fue lanzada en el camino del Rey de Inglaterra por el Rey de Francia, con la intención premeditada de distraerlo de sus otros asuntos.

Tenga cuidado de que el Rey de Inglaterra no sea engañado en este o en ningún otro asunto.

Los franceses se esforzarán lo más que puedan para llevarlo a tales emprendimientos, pero son empresas muy inciertas y no deben ser consideradas en la actualidad. Además, no pueden ejecutarse sin perjuicio de nosotros y del Rey de Portugal.
